Frequently Asked Questions about the NAA’s Imagination Runway Fashion Competition

We have a great set of entries but would love a few more! Get your creative hat (coat, dress, suit, bikini, toga…) on and come up with something fun!

Where can I get the details on entering the competition?
Visit our Artist Opportunities page and download the entry form.

What sorts of outfits are you looking for?
Just about anything! Stylish, funky, fashionable, or just plain weird; we can’t wait to see what you come up with! No matter what your inspiration — haute couture, steampunk, cosplay, trash-to-treasure, or something completely new and different — it’s all good. Any and all materials are encouraged — cloth, paper, pine cones, plastic — use your imagination! Your outfit must be wearable for the event and suitable for wearing in public. Read over the entry form for all the details.

Does my project have to be finished before I can enter?
No! Just write up what you’re planning to create and don’t worry of things change. If your entry is accepted, we’ll ask for a brief description of both you and your design to read while it’s being modeled on the runway the night of the event.

Do I need to buy a ticket to the event?
You do not have to purchase an event ticket to enter the Wearable Runway Art Competition. If you wish to join us for dinner and drinks, you do need to purchase a ticket. You can purchase your ticket in advance ($45) or at the door ($50). All proceeds support the Newark Arts Alliance.

Who provides the model?
The entrant is responsible for securing someone to model their creation. You can model your own entry or enlist help from a friend or family member. All entries must be wearable for the duration of the event.

Age requirement
Due to numerous requests, we’ve adapted the age requirement for entering the competition. While the Primary Contact for the entry must be 18+, other members of design team may be under 18.

When will I hear if my entry was accepted? What are the details of the event?
Once entries are closed, we’ll be in touch! We’ll let you know if your entry has been accepted, when to arrive, the schedule for the evening, and so on.

Taste of Newark is Delaware’s premier food and wine festival! Guests enjoy the culinary delights of more than 50 Newark restaurants accompanied by the finest area wine distributors. Tickets sales benefit the students in the University of Delaware’s Hospitality Management program as well as the Downtown Newark Partnership.

Taste of Newark Silent Auction
The Newark Arts Alliance is fortunate to be the beneficiary of the Taste of Newark Silent Auction! We will have a large canopied space where you can bid on fabulous items donated by Newark-area businesses, works of art by local artists, and some incredible surprises. All proceeds from the Silent Auction support the many programs and activities Newark Arts Alliance!

Join us for dinner, a wearable art fashion competition, and so much more! You’ll enjoy hors d’oeuvres, a buffet dinner with food from local restaurants, an open bar, and an assortment of tasty desserts. From start to finish, the evening will be full of fashionable fun!

  • Watch as a masterpiece is created right before your eyes! Our special guest Newark Mayor Polly Sierer will be our live model as Barb Hughes, Costume Director for the UD Rep Theater, dresses her in an amazing gown made of toilet paper.
  • Help yourself to our delicious buffet and then it’s time for the entrants to show off their creativity, spirit, and style as their wearable-art fashions are modeled on our own our Imagination Runway. And you’ll be a part of choosing the winner!
  • Be sure to check out our dress-up photo corner where you can join in the fashionable fun and be a part of your own fantastic photo shoot.
  • Other surprises will fill the evening and make it a night to remember!

Harvest Arts Festival

Location:  Academy Building Lawn, at the corner of Main and Academy Streets in downtown Newark

Eighteen local artists will have fine art and crafts for sale at this free event. Now in its 9th year, the Harvest Arts Festival is a celebration of the arts that coincides with the University of Delaware’s Parents & Family Weekend. We’ll also have live music and art projects for all ages. See you there!

Garden Tour Workshops 2017

The Newark Arts Alliance is pleased to present two garden-related workshops this spring!

Mosaic Stepping Stone Workshop

Dates: Saturday, May 20 10am – 2:30pm & Sunday, May 21 12 – 2pm (Rain dates: May 27 & 28)
Location: Dragonfly Art Studios, Newark DE
Ages: 14 and up. Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
Cost: $85 – includes instruction and all materials to make two stepping stones
Instructor: Dragonfly Leathrum
Registration: Contact the instructor to sign up for this workshop

Make two mosaic stepping stones for your garden using pottery, tiles and glass. Create your tiles on Saturday and apply grouting on Sunday. All materials are included but participants are welcome to bring special pieces of broken pottery if you wish. Coffee and Bings Bakery goodies provided. A portion of the proceeds go to support the Newark Arts Alliance.
