Every dog has its day … at Reservoir Dogs

Reservoir Dogs

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, it’s quite a showdown here at Newark Reservoir as the two finalists face off for the coveted title of ‘best-behaved dog.’

“Chase is a strong contender, but the more mature Marley is demonstrating the experience and mental toughness it takes to just lie there, minute after minute. It’s inspiring to watch these two champions duke it out.

“Wait a minute – wait a minute! Chase is stirring … he’s standing up … he’s walking away. And Marley wins!!!”
And that was just one of the categories canines and their owners competed in at the NAA’s Reservoir Dogs event on Saturday, September 29. A total of 17 dogs registered. Each went home with a new hand-painted bandannas to wear and a grab bag of treats from Pet Kare.

In addition to Marley, the contest winners were:

  • Chase and his owner Will – dog who looks most like its owner (they were wearing matching sports attire);
  • Lily, a Benji look-alike, and her owner Megan – cutest dog;
  • Riley and his owner Thomas – best dressed (as a rescue worker with a yellow slicker and matching hat)

The “best trick” category had to be abandoned when neither of the two entrants would perform. However, the owners deserved prizes for the antics they went through trying to get their pets to cooperate.

Prizes for the winners were donated by Village Imports, Lieberman's Books, Bloom, and Timothy's of Newark. The event's organizers – Nancy Breslin, Terry Foreman, and Carol Boncelet – say the event definitely got tails wagging, and we’ll do it again next year.
