Stop and Smell the Flowers at the NAA Garden Tour

Saturday, June 11, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Rain Date: Sunday, June 12

Take a self-guided tour of eight gorgeous Newark area gardens and experience how art and creativity can shape the landscape in both small and large spaces. This event, sponsored by the Newark Arts Alliance, features garden art, live music, and demonstrations and tips to inspire every gardener. Highlights include lush perennial beds, winding brick pathways, peaceful ponds, shady nooks, delectable vegetable gardens, and more!

The tour will be held on Saturday, June 11, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The rain date is Sunday, June 12. All proceeds support the NAA’s programs, including art exhibits, classes, and community events.

Stop for lunch at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Newark from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. The menu includes sandwiches, salads, desserts, and beverages, all priced from $1 to $5. There'll be lots of vegetarian options and at least one vegan dish.

This site also features live music by members of the Newark Symphony Orchestra and a program on "Garden Photography Tips" presented by Karl Leck and Jane Strobach at 12:30 p.m. Their photographs are currently part of exhibits at Longwood Gardens conservatory, Mount Cuba Center, and Gallery 919 in Wilmington. All that, plus plant and garden pottery for sale!

Among the other sites included on the tour are a woodland garden; a produce and flower stand complete with goats and chickens; a landscape designer's low-maintenance garden; a self-sustaining, organic, pesticide-free garden; and two University of Delaware sites -- a native plant garden with five very different niches and a vegetable garden designed to maximize growth in a small space.

A variety of decorative items will be available for sale at sites on the tour, including mosaic sculptures and benches, ceramic bird feeders and houses, and lanterns.

Tickets are $20 for adults, and $10 for children age 12 and under. The tour starts at the Newark Arts Alliance, where participants will receive a map of the sites. The NAA is located at 276 East Main Street, Suite 102, in Market East Plaza, Newark, DE.

This program is made possible, in part, by grants from the Delaware Division of the Arts, a state agency dedicated to nurturing and supporting the arts in Delaware, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts.
