“Around the Block, Around the World”
There’ll be food for the body, mind, and spirit at “Around the Block, Around the World,” with international treats and a chance to see work by more than a dozen area artists in four Newark homes.
The fund-raising event, put together, by a group of friends of the Newark Arts Alliance, will be held Saturday, March 13. Tickets are $25 each for NAA members and their guests, $30 for non-members, and can be purchased at the NAA. Spaces are limited.
The tour starts at 6 p.m. with Indonesian cuisine at the home of Catriona and Stuart Binder-Macleod, and work by Catriona, Norman Sasowsky, Rowena Macleod, Yolanda Chetwynd, and the late Dan Teis.
Then, a short walk away, Debbie and Steve Hegedus welcome the travelers at 7 p.m. with Middle Eastern-themed hors d’oeuvres. Debbie has turned their home into a work of art with her murals, paintings, and sculpture.
Just up the street, Niki Chester and Susan Eggert serve Asian nibbles at 8 p.m. and offer a look at the work of several local artists including Felise Luchansky, Peggy Schultz, B. Proud, and Maggie Creshkoff.
The final stop is dessert at 9 p.m. with Nancy Breslin and Peter Caws. On display will be photos, ceramics, and fiber art by Nancy, Ginny Abrams, Carole Fox, Victor Spinski, and others.
For tickets, call the NAA at 302-266-7266 or stop by 276 East Main Street, Suite 102 in the Market East Plaza in downtown Newark.
Got a thirst to make music?
Quench it at the NAA!
Local music lovers have come up with two events that give people a chance to get together and play, just for the fun of it.
Sunday Jams
Tune up for the "Every Sunday Music Jam." This get-together, from 2-6 p.m, is open to everyone, including listeners. Musicians are invited to bring their portable instruments and drop in any time during those hours to jam with other area players and singers.
Your hosts are Jeff Smith, Michele McCann, and Aric Pringle. While this is a free event, donations are appreciated. Light refreshments will be sold.
Drum Circle

Our free, informal drum circle meets the fourth Friday of the month from 7-8:30 p.m. Participants are asked to bring a drum or other percussion instrument, and melody instruments (such as flute, clarinet, etc.) are also welcome.
Moderator Rebecca Sullivan says the focus is primarily on African and Mideast rhythms, but all drumming is welcome. There can also be dancing, if space permits. Children should be accompanied by parents.
No advance registration is needed. Donations will be solicited but not required. Info: Rebecca Sullivan, 302-562-4515 or Lorelei.dancer@gmail.com.
DelaWhere? Poetry Open Mic and Slam

The Delawhere poets meet every Tuesday at 8 p.m. There’s a $3 cover, and these sessions are recommended for age 15 and up due to occasional language and subject matter. For details and updates, visit www.myspace.com/delawhereslam.
