Mayor Vance Funk has asked for help from the NAA to create a painted mural on the walls adjacent to the train tracks at the Newark train station, which is located next to the old Chrysler plant on Route 896.

Terry Foreman is supervising this effort and is working with adults and high school students to design and paint the mural. Anyone wishing to get involved should contact the NAA and leave a message. Volunteers should have some previous art painting experience and be age 14 to adult.

Mural magic!

It all started with a mural-making class, and now two pieces of community artwork will decorate buildings near the NAA. Carole Fox and Debbie Hegedus were the instructors, and even though the course has ended, the artists involved are continuing to volunteer their time to complete the projects.

The painted mural was created by Terry Foreman and a team of artist volunteers including Courtney Widdoes, Grace Wessel, Andrea Jackson, Akayla Mazza, Ben Steckel, Danyi Li, Joan Lu, and others over the summer. It is located in the grass courtyard across the parking lot from the Market East Plaza stores. The NAA is hoping to raise money to install a picnic table in front of it for everyone to enjoy a unique outdoor dining area. Anyone wishing to donate towards that effort may contact the NAA. And soon the stucco building to the left of it will be decorated with a series of large mosaic-covered leaves and circles.

The two new artworks join the mosaic mural created earlier around the NAA’s doors and windows.

The NAA has a new membership benefit just for you. Artists can submit a two-page sample of their work to be exhibited in an artist registry portfolio binder at the NAA. Visitors interested in finding, for example, a muralist, jewelry maker, poet, or musician, can flip through the binder and connect with NAA artists. Each artist is limited to two 8.5 x 11-inch pages. The information must be professionally presented. Artists are encouraged to donate a commission to the NAA if they get work through the book.
