Submission Guidelines for Solo and Group Show Proposals…
Submission Guidelines for Solo and Group Show Proposals
The Gallery Committee meets yearly, in October, to review submissions for solo and group shows. At that time the Committee plans the next calendar year’s schedule of exhibitions. Please follow these guidelines if you would like to propose a show for the main gallery.
Eligibility. Artists in any medium may submit proposals for solo or group shows. An example of a group show would be several photographers who propose to show together.
Selection Process. All submissions will be reviewed by the Gallery Committee. The number of proposals selected will depend upon other exhibitions planned for that year; it is likely that 2 or 3 solo or group shows will be chosen. If appropriate, the Committee may suggest that 2 solo proposals be combined into a two-person show. Notification will be sent to artists by Nov. 15.
Terms. The application fee to submit a proposal is $15 for members and $25 for non-members. If accepted, there is an additional $75 fee to be paid before the show is installed. (For group shows this can be split as the group chooses.)
The commission on sales from shows will be:
- 40% for non-members
- 30% for members
- 20% for working members—volunteering 4 hrs. per month minimum
- 15% for working members—volunteering 8 hours per month minimum
Payments will be made to artists within 30 days. If volunteer hours have not been logged by that time, payment will be made at the non-working rate.
Artists will supply refreshments for the opening reception. A Committee member can help with set-up, sales and closing on the evening of the reception.
The NAA will publicize the show through the newsletter, website and press releases. The artist can also send out postcards for the show. The artist is responsible for printing and mailing the cards, though he or she may have access to all or part of the NAA’s mailing list. The artist may contact Terry Foreman at info@newarkartsalliance.org, in order to receive an electronic copy of the NAA logo for the address side of the card.
Presentation. Artists are responsible for suitable framing with hanging wire on all 2-D work, and will arrange to hang the show with a Committee member.
Proposal Requirements. Proposals should consist of slides/CD of recent work (the past 3 years) that has not been previously shown at the NAA. Preference will be given to artists who have not had a recent exhibition at the NAA. Please send or deliver the following information to the NAA, “Attention Gallery Committee,” 276 E. Main St., Suite 102, Newark, DE 19711. Proposals must be received on or before October 1, 2009, and shall include the following:
- 10 slides (in a transparent sleeve) or a CD (10 images) of recent work. Each slide should be labeled with artist’s name, title, medium, date and dimensions. CD images should be in the same order as information on the accompanying image list. Both slides and CDs must be accompanied by a printed image list which includes titles, media, dates and dimensions.
- If it is a group show proposal, please include at least 5 images from each artist.
- Artist’s statement (optional).
- Current resume for each artist.
- Self-addressed, stamped envelope for return of slides/CD (if you want them back).
- Entry form (see below).
- Entry fee; make checks payable to “Newark Arts Alliance.”
PLEASE NOTE: We are looking for cohesive bodies of work. For example, it would be better to submit 10 landscapes in oil, rather than 3 oil landscapes, several figure drawings and a few watercolor still life paintings. Different media are fine when there is a thematic link, such as Jenny Davies-Reazor’s recent show of collages and ceramics all of which dealt with myth.
