Figure Drawing with Live Models

Second & Fourth Thursdays | 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. | $5 donation

Artists bring their own supplies for a chance to work from a live model. No instruction provided. The model’s fee ($40) is typically covered by the $5 donation; donations above the cost of the model help support the NAA.

Adult & Teen Classes

Beginning Drawing
Dates: Mondays, Sept. 25, Oct. 2, 9, 16
Time: 6:30pm–8pm
Ages: Teen 16+/Adult
Price: $75M/$85NM
Instructor: Karen Berstler
Students will explore several materials used in drawing, learn different drawing methods, discover how to “see” their subject, study light and shadow, and complete a still life drawing for their final project. No experience necessary.

Introduction to Alcohol Inks
Date: Saturday, October 7
Time: 1pm–3:30pm
Ages: Teen/Adult
Price: $50M/$55NM
Instructor: Catherine Houghton
Explore the vibrant colors of alcohol inks. Participants will create two smaller practice pieces on Yupo, then create a final piece to mat and frame (5 x 7). No brushes are used. The artist moves the ink by tilting the paper and occasional use of a cotton swab or coffee stirrer. Patience and persistence will yield a piece to be proud of! Beginner class—no experience required.

Beginning Watercolor

Ages: Teen 16+/Adult

Students will learn a variety of watercolor techniques including washes, wet-on-wet brush work, dry brush work, glazing, and color mixing. You’ll practice and complete a small sample for each technique and then combine what you’ve learned to create a complete painting. No drawing or painting experience required. Limit 6 students.

Alcohol Inks—Trees in Ink
Date: Saturday, October 28
Time: 1pm–3:30pm
Ages: Teen/Adult
Price: $50M/$55NM
Instructor: Catherine Houghton
Learn to use a variety of techniques with alcohol inks to create your choice of spooky trees, fall trees, psychedelic trees, or an ethereal forest. You’ll create three 4.5”x6” pieces on Yupo and receive one mat and 5”x7” frame for your favorite painting. Intermediate level—students should have some experience with alcohol inks.

Introduction to Instagram for Artists

Learn how to create engaging posts and gain followers (and customers) as an artist on the visual social media platform of Instagram! Students will learn how Instagram works, why people use it, and how to share their works-in-progress, inspirations, and finished pieces with the rest of the world. This class is for artists new to Instagram or those who have used the platform but want to improve their results. Students must bring their own smart phone/device and charger.

Alcohol Ink Ornaments
Dates: Saturday, December 2
Time: 1pm–3pm
Ages: Teen/Adult
Price: $45M/$50NM

Participants will use alcohol inks and compressed air to create gorgeous glass ornaments (two medium and one large). Use as part of your own décor or give as unique gifts! Beginner class—no experience required.
