SUMMARY:Newark Garden Tour 2024
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]Newark Garden Tour 2024 (benefiting the Newark Arts Alliance)\nSaturday\, June 1\, 2024\, 10am-3pm\nRaindate: Sunday\, June 2\, 10am-3pm \nTICKETS HERE! Tickets are $25 ($20 if you’re an NAA member) – tickets for kids under 5 are free\, and tickets for kids ages 5-12 are $10. Once you’ve purchased your tickets\, you’ll receive a map of the garden locations (the night before the tour) to choose your own adventure!\nTake a stroll through ten unique\, private gardens in the Newark area: soak in the beautiful blooms\, learn about local plants\, and get inspired!  \nThe Newark Arts Alliance is again hosting the Newark Garden Tour\, an annual tour of some of the most lush and enchanting gardens in and around Newark. The gardens on this year’s tour all appeal to the visitor to stay and relax a while\, but all make that appeal in unique ways. Many gardens have water features\, some will host live music\, and others will showcase original art and art-making demos. As always\, gardens will feature different aesthetics and give visitors ideas for what to do in their own gardens\, from using native plants that help pollinators to finding that perfect\, sassy piece of yard art. \nNew Features in 2024\nSeveral new elements make this year’s Garden Tour especially exciting! Steve Ruiz’s Mojo Loco 302 food truck (FB/IG) will be stationed where there are three gardens close together. There will be a small farmer’s market with Trebs Thompson of Whimsical Farms and Christina’s Peter’s of Posy Parlor\, where visitors can buy plants and flowers. One garden will feature pollinator plant giveaways (milkweed and hyssop lovingly raised by Rachel Brewer and Yvonne Settle). There will also be a silent auction of gorgeous hand-painted watering cans\, decorated by local artists\, to benefit the Newark Arts Alliance! Information on all of these offerings will be shared with ticket holders.  \n If you’re interested in garden-hopping by bike\, BikeNewark has plotted out a (slightly abridged) tour for the day. This 5.67 mile route is mostly downhill\, and a great way to enjoy the Garden Tour! A group ride will set out from the parking lot at Fairfield Park just off Cambridge Drive at 9:30am the day of the tour.  \nOne of the biggest changes this year is a spotlight sponsorship from Scenic Outdoors (FB/IG)\, a local landscaping firm. Lisa and Savvas from Scenic Outdoors assisted with identifying 4 of the gardens on this year’s tour. In addition\, they have provided a beautiful barrel of annuals for a raffle that will be run through social media (and in person at the Arts Alliance) on the day of the tour. More information TBA. \nLocal Musician Lineup\n\nSharon Bousquet website\nSerenata Strings – string quartet\nDJ Verdell Smith Instagram Spotify\nScott Comeaux – classic rock\nThe Professors – folk trio of UD fame!\nPJs Pub Tour Facebook\nJosh Hendrix YouTube\nNewark Ukesters website\nConnor Capizzi –\n\nLocal Artist Lineup\n\nUrban Sketchers Facebook Instagram\nEstelle Lukoff Etsy Instagram\nGerry Scarfe – plein air painting\nMaureen Coughlin – fused glass\nCarol Gray website\nKaren Yarnall – plein air painting\nCathy Hill – bobbin lace\nCarole Huber – weaving Instagram\nMary Anderson Instagram\nJoy Smith Instagram\nKelly Martin website Instagram\n\nHand-painted Watering Can Silent Auction\n\nFifteen local artists have transformed ordinary watering cans into exceptional works of art. View them all at the Newark Arts Alliance and bid on your favorite! You will have all week to bid – winners will be announced on June 7th at 4:30. Winners will also receive an invitation to our VIP Garden Tour closing reception\, also on June 7th from 6-8pm. You do not need to be present to win. \nContainer garden raffle sponsored by Scenic Outdoors\n\nEnter to win this beautiful container garden overflowing with colorful annuals\, created by Scenic Outdoors! Please stop by the NAA for a raffle ticket (given to ticket-holders with their map and program)\, and/or snap a selfie on the tour and tag The Newark Arts Alliance by 3pm. Winner will be announced at 3:30 on social media. \nThank you to our Supporters and Partners\nThe 2024 Garden Tour was supported in part by The Newark Partnership. The Newark Arts Alliance is supported\, in part\, by a grant from the Delaware Division of the Arts\, a state agency\, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts. The Division promotes Delaware arts events on DelawareScene.com. SUMMARY:Light Between Time
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Paintings by Francine Renee’ Schneider on display from February 6 to March 15\, 2024. An artist reception will be held Friday\, February 9\, 6-8pm. It is free and open to all. \nThe Newark Arts Alliance is excited to announce the initial Art Exhibition in our new location at the Shoppes at Louvier’s on Papermill Road in Newark. We will welcome Francine Renee’ Schneider\, a new NAA member and painter from West Chester\, PA to our gallery for a solo art show\, ‘Light Between Time’. \nIt is a collection of Francine’s nocturnal scenic paintings. The exhibit will be on view from February 6 to March 15\, 2024. An artist’s reception\, open to the public\, will be held in the main gallery on Friday\, February 9th\, from 6 to 8 p.m. \nWe were first introduced to Francine’s artwork when she served as Juror for an NAA Exhibit last spring. She has had a long artistic career starting at the Raymond Duncan Gallery in Paris after completing a BFA degree in painting at Syracuse University and post graduate studies at the L’Ecole des Beaux-Arts in France. In New York City she exhibited at the Soho Gallery of Henry Howells. \nBecause of an ongoing medical condition and an early retirement\, after a long career in clinical psychotherapy\, Ms. Schneider returned to visual arts as a focus in her life. She completed a Post Baccalaureate program at the prestigious Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia\, and was awarded the designation of Alumni Fellow with a studio at PAFA. \nMost recently she has been exhibiting in juried and solo exhibits in Pennsylvania at the Cheltenham Center for the Arts’ 79th Annual Juried Painting Exhibition\, Wayne Arts Center\, Oxford Arts Alliance\, and the Chester County Arts Council. Her artwork is held in private collections in Paris\, New York\, Philadelphia \, Augusta and Atlanta as well as locally. SUMMARY:Color My World Art Exhibit
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Join us for the exhibit\, “Color My World“\,  Art in any medium where color is a primary focus. Juror: Abigail McBride. Reception: Friday\, November 10\, 6:00-8:00pm. Show will be on display from October 24-November 17 during regular gallery hours\, Tues.\, Wed.\, Fri.\, Sat.\, 12-4pm and Thurs.\, 4-7pm. This show features artwork by: Elizabeth Bard\, Joyce Bensinger\, Toby Boyd\, Vivienne Cameron\, Joe Charma\, Branndon Chen\, Victoria Cochran\, Mary Coleman\, Susan Conner\, Brian Cox\, Anne Hessel\, Judy Hotchkiss\, Harold Ellis Howell\, Wendi Jacobs\, Sheila Kennedy\, Susan King\, Kira Krell\, Katherine LeCocq\, Samantha Levine\, Hilary Livingston\,E. Jean Lanyon\, Michael Luck\, René Paul Marks\, Robert Palandrani\, Christina Peters \, Karen Schueler\, River Shields\, Joy S. Smith\, Michele Tilford\, Atala Dorothy Toy\, Sabina Troncone \, Denise Van Deroef\, Deborah Whiteside and Sally Wilson. \nAbout the juror\, Abigail McBride \n“The longer I paint\, the more amazed I am at how beautiful the world is.”\n\n\n\n\n Compelled to chronicle the life and world around her\, Abigail Faye McBride paints with the heart of a poet. Her oil paintings and charcoal drawings bear witness to a time\, person or passing glimmer of light. Abigail paints landscape\, figure and still life working interchangeably with brush and palette knife. Collectors\, nationally and internationally\, appreciate the color\, mood and elegance of her work. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nA consummate Cape School colorist\, the draftsmanship in her work is born of an academic interest in the portrait and figure. Her work blends traditional subject matter with modern design sensibilities. She is part of a new breed of perceptual painters working from direct observation be it plein air or in the studio. Though often free of narrative\, her work is grounded in the present day as a contemporary interpretation of genre painting. \nMcBride has developed a reputation as a dynamic teacher and mentor. She hosts online classes with the option of joining tightly limited critique groups.  She also teaches at Anne Arundel Community College and selected traveling workshops. She is advancing principles of visual understanding acquired from years of study. \nEarly national recognition by American Artist Magazine helped launch Abigail into gallery representation. Using skills gleaned as one of the founders of the Mid-Atlantic Plein Air Painters Association and the Paint Annapolis plein air competition she launched Paint the Town\, the first plein air event in Chesapeake City MD. Her work is featured in the 100 Plein Air Painters of the Mid-Atlantic large format book by Gary Pendleton\, Shiffer Press.  She is represented The Station Gallery in Delaware\, Berkley Gallery in Virginia\,  Benfield Gallery and McBride Gallery in Maryland and The Egeli Gallery in Massachusetts. Abigail also shows her work in institutions and museum exhibitions. \nVisit the artist’s website: https://www.abigailmcbride.com/ \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][/vc_column][/vc_row]

SUMMARY:Abstract Harmonies
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Weavings by Susan Balascio\, Kathleen Remsa and Marcia Weiss. Reception: Friday\, October 13\, 6-8pm.  Exhibit is on display from Sept 26-Oct 20\, 2023. \nAbstract Harmonies is a group exhibition celebrating the creative dialogue between three textile artists: Susan Balascio\, Kathleen Remsa and Marcia Weiss. The artwork incorporates shifting geometries\, ethereal textures and tactile expressions in traditional and non-traditional materials. Inspired and influenced by one another\, we strive to expand the boundaries of conventional weaving in subtle and overt manners.  This is highlighted through entwined layers of complexity\, sculptural layers of tactility and evocative layers of meaning. This new body of work illustrates the creative dialogue—the abstract harmonies—that exist between us.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][/vc_column][/vc_row]

SUMMARY:'Come Rain or Shine" Art Exhibit
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]’Come Rain or Shine’ is an art exhibit that includes work depicting elements of weather. Juried by Francine Renee Schneider. Reception will be Friday\, April 14\, 6:00-8:00pm. Work will be on display from March 28 to April 22\, 2023. \nHere is our juror’s artist statement: \nFrancine Renée Schneider \nAfter my BFA in painting from Syracuse University and post graduate studies at the L’Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris\, I began showing my work at the Raymond Duncan Gallery in Paris\, France and in Brussels\, Belgium. Subsequently\, I moved back to the United States\, and gained exclusive representation at the Henry Howells Gallery in Soho\, New York City. After gaining some recognition in my long-term association with them\, I was encouraged to produce works specifically for my first solo exhibition with them. However\, this was drastically derailed when a MS attack on my hands that not only eliminated my ability to paint\, it also left me unable to even write my own name. I never expected to ever be able to paint again. \nConsequently\, this compelled me to abandon my interest in art\, and pursue other interests sending me to graduate school for counseling psychology and clinical social work for over seven years\, then into private practice as a psychotherapist. \nI was surprised that after I had a thriving private practice in pursuing methods to help my clients deal with an assortment of anxiety related issues using specialized drawing techniques\, I had stumbled back into my own creative endeavors and “Art found me”\, so to speak. So\, with some trepidation\, I left the security of my success in private practice behind and made art my soul priority by attending the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia at age 60! I was ultimately awarded the honor and distinction of being named an Alumni Fellow at PAFA. \nWhile attending PAFA I was fortunate to rent a condo in Philadelphia with a spectacular view of the city\, the Schuylkill River and the Expressway. Each night’s view was like a beautiful and grand theatrical event. \nBecause I have multiple sclerosis\, getting my service/mobility dog\, Sable\, freed me to explore the Schuylkill Boardwalk at ground level at night. Her large 120-pound presence transformed me from an old lady with a cane\, a target\, into a confident woman who could linger and appreciate the colors\, views and awesome reflections bouncing off the river at night. \nThat wondrous experience in Philadelphia has continued to inform my work and is often based upon represents snippets of time and space caught between night and day and often by the night itself. The dance between man-made light and natural light often look choreographed by something greater than their elements. My goal is to share the visual beauty of the scene but as importantly\, the feelings they evoke in my paintings. \nWebsite: https://www.francinereneeschneider.com \nEmail: paintingpaintingsagain@gmail.com \n [/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][/vc_column][/vc_row]

SUMMARY:California Dreamin' Photographs by Catriona Binder-Macleod
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]An exhibition of phography by Catriona Binder-Macleod on display from January 3 to 27\, 2023. Artist reception will be Friday\, January 13\, 6:00-8:00pm. Admission is FREE and open to all. \nCatriona offers her inspiration for this show: \nI have always yearned to be a Californian\, since I first landed there after driving cross country with a girlfriend in 1977….. a Thelma and Louise kind of scenario….. recklessly driving a convertible Thunderbird down Route 66…. but in our case it was a Pontiac with a canvas bag of camping gear strapped onto our roof.  It was a large canvas bag that flew off our roof in Iowa and recklessly landed on the freeway and narrowly escaped being run over by a truck. \nMy girlfriend realized her dream and got herself a job in San Francisco.  I ended up in Georgia\, a different landscape.  Verdant\, fecund\, and lush\, the thick air filled with a cacophony of sounds throughout the long humid nights.  Kudzu grew rampant over abandoned buildings in a matter of weeks\, live oaks were draped in Spanish Moss and mistletoe hung from the poplars. \nHowever\, I longed for California; the dry crisp air smelling of redwoods and eucalyptus; the thunderous surf crashing in brilliant blues and whites beneath rocky golden cliffs…sea lions and otters playing among the rocks.  I longed to wander in the national parks of Ansel Adams with their towering granite cliffs\, majestic sequoias and spectacular plummeting waterfalls.  So much sky!  Such a big landscape\, such a big world. \nI returned to California annually for many years.  Then life intervened and I got married\, had kids\, a house\, and responsibilities.  My kids grew up and then my daughter inherited my dream.  She got herself a job in California\, then a husband\, and then kids.  So now I am again Californian dreamin’. \nThese images are an homage to that dream; to the blue of the sky and the sea; to the golden summer grasses; to the dry smell of eucalyptus and sequoia; to geraniums and bougainvillea in winter.   These images are an homage to finally livin’ the dream in California.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][/vc_column][/vc_row]
