SUMMARY:Abstract Harmonies
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Weavings by Susan Balascio\, Kathleen Remsa and Marcia Weiss. Reception: Friday\, October 13\, 6-8pm.  Exhibit is on display from Sept 26-Oct 20\, 2023. \nAbstract Harmonies is a group exhibition celebrating the creative dialogue between three textile artists: Susan Balascio\, Kathleen Remsa and Marcia Weiss. The artwork incorporates shifting geometries\, ethereal textures and tactile expressions in traditional and non-traditional materials. Inspired and influenced by one another\, we strive to expand the boundaries of conventional weaving in subtle and overt manners.  This is highlighted through entwined layers of complexity\, sculptural layers of tactility and evocative layers of meaning. This new body of work illustrates the creative dialogue—the abstract harmonies—that exist between us.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][/vc_column][/vc_row]

SUMMARY:'Come Rain or Shine" Art Exhibit
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]’Come Rain or Shine’ is an art exhibit that includes work depicting elements of weather. Juried by Francine Renee Schneider. Reception will be Friday\, April 14\, 6:00-8:00pm. Work will be on display from March 28 to April 22\, 2023. \nHere is our juror’s artist statement: \nFrancine Renée Schneider \nAfter my BFA in painting from Syracuse University and post graduate studies at the L’Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris\, I began showing my work at the Raymond Duncan Gallery in Paris\, France and in Brussels\, Belgium. Subsequently\, I moved back to the United States\, and gained exclusive representation at the Henry Howells Gallery in Soho\, New York City. After gaining some recognition in my long-term association with them\, I was encouraged to produce works specifically for my first solo exhibition with them. However\, this was drastically derailed when a MS attack on my hands that not only eliminated my ability to paint\, it also left me unable to even write my own name. I never expected to ever be able to paint again. \nConsequently\, this compelled me to abandon my interest in art\, and pursue other interests sending me to graduate school for counseling psychology and clinical social work for over seven years\, then into private practice as a psychotherapist. \nI was surprised that after I had a thriving private practice in pursuing methods to help my clients deal with an assortment of anxiety related issues using specialized drawing techniques\, I had stumbled back into my own creative endeavors and “Art found me”\, so to speak. So\, with some trepidation\, I left the security of my success in private practice behind and made art my soul priority by attending the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia at age 60! I was ultimately awarded the honor and distinction of being named an Alumni Fellow at PAFA. \nWhile attending PAFA I was fortunate to rent a condo in Philadelphia with a spectacular view of the city\, the Schuylkill River and the Expressway. Each night’s view was like a beautiful and grand theatrical event. \nBecause I have multiple sclerosis\, getting my service/mobility dog\, Sable\, freed me to explore the Schuylkill Boardwalk at ground level at night. Her large 120-pound presence transformed me from an old lady with a cane\, a target\, into a confident woman who could linger and appreciate the colors\, views and awesome reflections bouncing off the river at night. \nThat wondrous experience in Philadelphia has continued to inform my work and is often based upon represents snippets of time and space caught between night and day and often by the night itself. The dance between man-made light and natural light often look choreographed by something greater than their elements. My goal is to share the visual beauty of the scene but as importantly\, the feelings they evoke in my paintings. \nWebsite: https://www.francinereneeschneider.com \nEmail: paintingpaintingsagain@gmail.com \n [/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][/vc_column][/vc_row]

SUMMARY:California Dreamin' Photographs by Catriona Binder-Macleod
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]An exhibition of phography by Catriona Binder-Macleod on display from January 3 to 27\, 2023. Artist reception will be Friday\, January 13\, 6:00-8:00pm. Admission is FREE and open to all. \nCatriona offers her inspiration for this show: \nI have always yearned to be a Californian\, since I first landed there after driving cross country with a girlfriend in 1977….. a Thelma and Louise kind of scenario….. recklessly driving a convertible Thunderbird down Route 66…. but in our case it was a Pontiac with a canvas bag of camping gear strapped onto our roof.  It was a large canvas bag that flew off our roof in Iowa and recklessly landed on the freeway and narrowly escaped being run over by a truck. \nMy girlfriend realized her dream and got herself a job in San Francisco.  I ended up in Georgia\, a different landscape.  Verdant\, fecund\, and lush\, the thick air filled with a cacophony of sounds throughout the long humid nights.  Kudzu grew rampant over abandoned buildings in a matter of weeks\, live oaks were draped in Spanish Moss and mistletoe hung from the poplars. \nHowever\, I longed for California; the dry crisp air smelling of redwoods and eucalyptus; the thunderous surf crashing in brilliant blues and whites beneath rocky golden cliffs…sea lions and otters playing among the rocks.  I longed to wander in the national parks of Ansel Adams with their towering granite cliffs\, majestic sequoias and spectacular plummeting waterfalls.  So much sky!  Such a big landscape\, such a big world. \nI returned to California annually for many years.  Then life intervened and I got married\, had kids\, a house\, and responsibilities.  My kids grew up and then my daughter inherited my dream.  She got herself a job in California\, then a husband\, and then kids.  So now I am again Californian dreamin’. \nThese images are an homage to that dream; to the blue of the sky and the sea; to the golden summer grasses; to the dry smell of eucalyptus and sequoia; to geraniums and bougainvillea in winter.   These images are an homage to finally livin’ the dream in California.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][/vc_column][/vc_row]

SUMMARY:Into A Paper Garden
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]”Into a Paper Garden” is a dual show featuring the artwork of Linda Majewski and Kelly Martin. The show runs from June 28 to July 22. There will be a artist reception on Friday\, July 8\, 6:00-8:00pm that is free and open to all. \nArtist statement of Kelly Martin\nCurling\, twirling\, squeezing…not usual words you think of when it comes to art making but that’s how @PaperHibiscus creates her one-of-a-kind pieces. The art form\, known as quilling\, centers around the creation of many small coils made by rolling a thin strip of paper around a slotted tool or a needle tool. Once the coils are made the variations are endless. By simply pinching a coil can turn into the petals of a flower\, spikes on a cactus\, or an abstract design. One of the best parts about a decorative medium like quilling is seeing how an adept artist can take it to a new level and challenge the boundaries of what we expect of the medium. .\nKelly Martin\, the face behind the quills\, creates a wide variety of pieces–many live in the floral realm and end up adorning cards or the like\, but delve a little deeper into her portfolio and you’ll find paper bowls\, wall pieces\, and even wearables like statement earrings. One of Martin’s favorite things to do in her slow season\, which is just after the holidays\, is experiment with new ideas and techniques so follow along to see what she comes up with next! \nArtist statement of Linda Majewski\nWith nature as inspiration\, dimensonal paper artist Linda Majewski designs fanciful paper botanials evocative of their real-life counterparts. Using paints\, inks\, and dyes\, she colors a variety of paper types and assembles each piece by hand. Linda specializes in succulents and has ecently added flowers to her paper plant repertoire. She’s always exploring more ways to work with paper.\nLinda exhibits at art fairs and local galleries and teaches art and craft classes throughout the region. She is a current member of the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen and the First State Craft Guild. Linda is the owner/artist of Paper Greehouse and the owner/teaching artist of Marvelous Makers. She lives with her family in Newark\, Delaware.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][/vc_column][/vc_row]
