Artist Reception and Book Signing for “A Day at the Beach”: Friday, August 11, 6:00-8:00pm. There will also be an artist talk at 7:00pm. Reception is free and open to all.
An exhibit of artwork from published children’s books illustrated by Alexi Natchev. Alexi Natchev works as a professional artist in the fields of Book Illustration, Printmaking, and Drawing for more than forty-five years.
After graduating from The National Academy of Fine Arts in Sofia, Bulgaria, he has illustrated more than thirty books for children and adults, before moving to the US. Since then he has illustrated twenty books with major American publishers and internationally renowned authors, such as Brian Jacques, and Jane Yolen.
His children’s book illustrations have been exhibited at prestigious museums, national and international venues such as Bologna Book Fair, Biennial of Illustration, Bratislava, “Premi Catalonia d’il-lustracio”, Barcelona, and “Original Art”, Society of Illustrators, NYC. In 2013 Alexi Natchev had a retrospective show at Delaware Art Museum. In 2014 he had an illustration solo exhibit at Skirball Museum, Cincinnati, of the original block prints from the book The Elijah Door, published by Holiday House.
In 2013 he received Sydney Taylor Book Award, Honor Book for Young Readers, and Anne Izard Storytellers’ Choice Award for the artwork of The Elijah Door.
In addition to being a practicing artist, Alexi Natchev is an art educator. Throughout the years he has been teaching at several art schools such as Savannah College of Art and Design, Maryland Institute College of Art, and University of the Arts. He is Professor Emeritus from Delaware College of Art and Design, where he was leading the Illustration Program from 2007 – 2018. He lives in Newark, Delaware.
